Choose multiple users for a topic

Andreas 7 years ago updated 7 years ago 2

When creating a topic in a team it would be nice if you could chose who should get notifications for this topic. This would mean that when it gets created everyone else would be unsubscribed from the topic (subscribing later is still an option).

Building on this, is would also be nice if it was possible to do this when creating a user topic (meaning you could add multiple users instead of just one), then if could act as an alternative to group chat (which is still a missing feature for Ryver).

If this change is implemented it would probably be a good idea to allow users to somehow see who is subscribed to a topic. By the way, "Topics" is still called "Posts" in your feedback system categories.

Hi Andreas - Right around Christmas, we put an update out that allows people to be more granular about the notifications they get for topics and tasks. So for people who want to be notified of a new topic, for example, but not be notified of every reply, they can choose that.

Now, on the author side, if you want to make sure that certain users get pulled into the topic, you can @mention them and they will be notified and subscribed to the topic.

I think the only part of this missing is unsubscribing people not @mentioned, but I'm not convinced we could implement that in a way that would make sense to everybody.

And thanks for pointing out the category issue here in the feedback site!

As it stands right now I think it is already a bit unclear since you can choose to invite a user but then what happens is that instead of creating a topic in that team with that user it is placed under topics for you and that user only. Since this is done while you have the team below and you accessed the feature under that teams topics I think it is not unreasonable to believe that the topic is supposed to end up in that team.

So maybe a change so that multiple users could be chosen with a warning that no other users will get notifications for this topic unless they manually subscribe or gets mentioned would be a better design. I think this would be a good feature since you often want to have a public discussion but you know several member will not want to be bothered with all the notifications. If you have to manually unsubscribe from all topics you do not care about then at least in large teams that can lead to a lot of extra work.

So that's my preferred way of solving it but if that it not how you want to move forward then maybe something should be done about the "add topic for" section since you likely want to add the topic in the section where you clicked add (obviously the option needs to stay under topic stream).
